Take the simple task of rating images: shortcut Cmd ⌘1 – ⌘5 in ViewNX-i – but Shift ⇧ 1 – ⇧5 in Capture NX-D. However, previous folder paths can be “register(ed) to menu” in a folder drop down … look for that tiny arrow in an almost indistinguishable from the background box, which reveals hidden menu treasure.Įvery program in the world may offer “recent files” on the File menu – not Capture NX-D. Whoever designed this software obviously thought that users have plenty of time on their hands to find image folders, manipulate curves (Levels & LCH), tick a multiple individual boxes to achieve partial results, and flick backwards and forwards between views to see image basics (like ratings) – well, we don’t. I was reasonably happy with the camera – until I downloaded the images to my Mac – and found that a NEF wasn’t just a NEF. The D7200 seemed to have roughly the specification I was looking for DX sensor, decent ISO, sufficient external controls, 100% viewfinder coverage, compatibility with all lenses and Wi-Fi.

I also felt that I needed to upgrade the light sensitivity of my DSLRs, as well as the processing engine. Having used the Nikon D90 and the Nikon D3 in recent years as my DX / FX combo, I was keen to see what 14 bit RAW images would capture in Dynamic Range. In the end, I just gave up on waiting for a successor of the D300s.
